Counselor Lessons

We will focus on these three areas...

Personal/Social Development

This area will be what the majority of our lessons will be focused on.  Students at the elementary level sometimes struggle with how to build and maintain strong, healthy friendships and relationships.  Some topics in this area include conflict resolution, empathy, bullying, making safe and healthy choices, diversity, and personal safety.

Academic Development

Now is the time to create successful learners so those skills will carry over into middle school, high school, and beyond.  It is important to develop good academic skills at the elementary level so the students can easily transition into the upper grades with those skills in place.  Topics in this area include developing work and study habits, goal-setting, organization, and time-management.

Career Development

It's never too early to start looking at the world of work and to begin planning for the future.  Career development at the elementary level is more focused on identifying strengths and weaknesses, recognizing our skills and how different people have different skill sets, and discovering skills needed for different jobs or careers in the six career paths.

Curriculum has been developed by all K-12 counselors in accordance with Grade Level Expectations as set forth by the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education.
