Come to Kauffman Stadium tonight, June 28, to see five students from Ray-Pec High School play the National Anthem! Pictured, from left: Bo Helzer, Omari Mourning, Riley Zimmerman, Brady Dillon, and Ben Robinson.
Senior Bo Helzer spends lots of time at the Royals games. He heard about the “Royals Fans Got Talent” and rounded up his trombone buddies to audition. They call themselves “The Slide 5.” In addition to Helzer, the group includes Ray-Pec graduate Brady Dillon and incoming seniors Omari Mourning, Riley Zimmerman, and Ben Robinson.
They started practicing an arrangement of the National Anthem. With a little help from Teacher Zachary Shupe, they submitted a recording of themselves to the Royals Organization. A couple weeks later, the Slide 5 were notified they had made it! The next step was to audition live in front of a panel of judges on March 4 at Kauffman Stadium. A couple weeks later, after beating out over 1,200 other performers, the Slide 5 were notified that they had made it and would be performing at an appointed game. The Slide 5 had a dream come true! If you can make it, plan to be at the game early to hear the Slide 5 live!
