Jim Brown will be the new Assistant Principal and Activities Director at Ray-Pec South Middle School, effective in July.
The School Board approved the hiring at its March 21 meeting.
Brown is currently in his 21st year in the District. He came to Ray-Pec in 2003 and taught social studies for five years. He was hired as the Alternative School Principal in 2008 and started the program, after the District transitioned the program from a contracted provider. He was the Summer School Principal for many years. He coached the high school softball team for 18 years, with nine years as the head coach.
Stacy Johnson, Principal at South Middle School, said that Brown will bring a wealth of experience to the South Middle School administrative team.
"Mr. Brown is a pillar of the Raymore-Peculiar School District,” Johnson said. “We are excited to have him bring his vast knowledge to Ray-Pec South! His years of experience as both a coach and umpire will be invaluable in the Athletic Director position.”
Brown commented on the transition to the new role.
"I will always love the 16 years I spent at Ray-Pec Academy,” he said. “There are so many wonderful people, both students and staff, that have come through there. I have memories from RPA that I will cherish forever.
“I am also very excited to join the staff at South Middle School. Serving as an Assistant Principal and the Activities Director gives me an opportunity to continue serving Ray-Pec students on a daily basis while also getting back into the extra-curricular side of things.”
Brown received his master’s degree in education from William Woods University in 2005 and his education specialist degree from William Wods in 2009.
Jim and his wife, Angie, live in Peculiar. Their children, Jake (2014), and Reice (2016), are Ray-Pec graduates.
With Brown’s move to South Middle School, both middle schools will have same level of administrative support.
