Matt Showman will be the new principal at Ray-Pec East Middle School, effective in July. The Ray-Pec School Board approved the hiring at its March 21 meeting.
Showman comes to Ray-Pec from the Raytown School District, where he has been the Assistant Principal and Activities Director at Raytown Central Middle School since 2017. Before that, he was an intern at for two years and a social studies teacher for four years at Osage Trail Middle School in the Fort Osage School District. . Earlier, he was a social studies teacher at Ruskin High School.
Showman said he is thrilled to join the Ray-Pec School District.
“I look forward to getting to know the Ray-Pec East community of students, teachers, faculty, and families," he said. "I’m blessed with the opportunity to carry on the tradition of excellence.”
Dr. Kristel Barr, Chief Academic Office, said that Showman’s many years of experience in middle school teaching and administration make him well-suited for the role of leading East Middle School.
“He knows middle school well and is enthusiastic about working with this grade span of students and the staff members who are charged with guiding their learning. We are excited to see what he will bring to our district.," Barr said.
Showman received his bachelor’s degree in history education from Missouri State University. He earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Missouri and is currently completely work on his doctorate degree in educational leadership from Saint Louis University.
He will replace Katie Campbell, who is resigning at the end of 2023-2024 school year to accept a position in the Olathe School District.
Showman and his wife, Michele, live in Lee’s Summit with their two boys, Miles, 7, and Meyer, 2.
