Skyler Myers will be the new principal at Ray-Pec Academy, effective in July. The Ray-Pec School Board approved the hiring at its April 25 meeting.
Myers is a third generation public educator who has spent the majority of his career as a teacher or as an administrator serving alternative schools in both the suburban and urban settings.
Myers comes to Ray-Pec from the Kansas City, Kansas School District, where he has been the Principal at Alfred Fairfax Academy since 2020. Before that, he was Director of Alternative Services in the KCKPS for one year. Prior to becoming a school administrator, he taught seven years in alternative education programs.
Myers said he is looking forward to joining the Ray-Pec School District.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be joining the Raymore-Peculiar school district, and joining in the awesome work being done district wide to ensure all students are provided an outstanding educational experience,” Myers said. “Moreover, I am thrilled to be joining the team at Ray-Pec Academy! I cannot wait to engage with them in the awesome work they do to give their kids the most amazing, engaging, and relevant educational experience possible.”
Dr. Glenna Bult, Director of Secondary Education, said that Myers is a great fit for the position at the Academy.
“I am excited for the wealth of experience Mr. Myers brings to our district, with his leadership and teaching experience in alternative education,” she said. “He will help us continue on the journey of incorporating real world learning and project-based learning at the academy, while also bringing in new ideas he has seen be successful in other districts. ”
Myers received his bachelor’s degree in American History from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in literacy from Rockhurst University. He earned an education specialist degree in school administration and urban leadership from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Myers will replace Jim Brown, who is moving to a position as assistant principal and activities director at South Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year.
Myers met his wife, Katie, also an educator, when they were at Rockhurst University working on their master’s degrees. They have a 9-year-old daughter, Hadley, who is currently completing 3rd grade.
