Congratulations to McKenzie Dubert on winning the Raymore-Peculiar School District Spelling Bee on Jan. 15.
After nine rounds, McKenzie won the bee by correctly spelling the word "sorbet."
McKenzie is an 8th grader at South Middle School. AsmaulHusna Suleiman, 7th grade at East Middle School, was the runner up.
Spellers from the seven elementary schools and two middle schools competed in the evening event at Ray-Pec High School.
As the winner, McKenzie received a trophy and a Visa gift card from UMB. She also qualifies to represent the District in the Cass County Spelling Bee. If McKenzie would win at the county level, she will be eligible to compete at the Scripps National Bee.
As runner-up, AsmaulHusna received a trophy and a Visa gift card from UMB. All other competitors received medallions in recognition of qualifying for the District bee.
Ray-Pec library media specialists served as judges for the event, which was organized by the Ray-Pec Academic Services Department.
