Thanks to the incredible work of Dr. Joanna Clark, South Middle Science Teacher, your student has the opportunity to learn and grow with the SMS Greenhouse Club. Over the summer, students like 8th grader Steven Branson took home seedlings and cuttings to care for in their own gardens. Branson's watermelon plan ended up yielding some impressive fruits!
The SMS Greenhouse Club will be back again this year soon. 7th and 8th grade students should inquire by emailing Dr. Clark (joanna.clark@raypec.org) if they want to be involved. Last year students grew a wide variety of different plants including:
Peas
Jalapeños
Lettuce
Swiss Chard
Cabbage
Watermelon
Cacti
Peppers
Tomatoes
Chives
Basil
And more!
New projects included exploring novel cultivation methods such as hydroponics and aquaponics thanks to a grant written by Dr. Clark. If you have a green thumb and want to learn all about the science of plants in tasty and delicious ways, let her know!
