Last Thursday, I had the great pleasure of sharing lunch with eight students in our September Select Panel. I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know these students and hear about their experiences. We have so much to celebrate here at South and I can’t express enough what a privilege it is to serve your students.
While savoring a few slices of pizza, a sweet treat, and some bubbly beverages, students shared ideas about our bag policy. I represented the school’s perspective and listened to the panel’s feedback, which was tactful, honest, and very reasonable. From their suggestions, I then was able to poll teachers.
Thanks to this direct input from students, I felt very confident in the decision to adjust our expectations for what students are allowed to carry to class (see below for updated bag guidance communicated to teachers and staff). Going forward each month, I look forward to hearing from new groups of kids and bringing their voice to the forefront with staff.
