Ray-Pec South Middle School Vocal Music Teacher Lezlie Waltz received a $575 grant to purchase headphones with microphones. Several choir students were present for the surprise award!

Congratulations to Aiden Daly, the Raymore-Peculiar Spelling Bee Champion!
The District Spelling bee was held virtually on Jan. 11. After 11 rounds of competition, Aiden was declared the winner after successfully spelling the word “subsequent.” He is an 8th grader at Ray-Pec South Middle School. The runner-up was Kadyn Johnson, an 8th grader at Ray-Pec East Middle School.
Aiden will represent the Ray-Pec School District at the Cass County Spelling Bee, scheduled for March 15 at the Raymore-Peculiar Administrative Services Center.

Members of the Southside Jazz and Syncopation vocal jazz ensembles at RPSMS recently performed at the M-Pact Vocal Festival. Both groups are under the direction of Teacher Lezlie Waltz.
This year, 8th grader Amari Russell was one of three performers in the festival selected to perform in the Masterclass for Solo and Commercial Voice led by M-Pact member Jamond McCoy. Amari sang the song "Never Enough" from the musical "The Greatest Showman". Amari is a member of both Syncopation and Southside Jazz, as well as in the Advanced Performing Choirs at South Middle School.
Members of Southside Jazz are: Kennady Smith, Hailey Chang, Kiya Hardee, Amari Russell, Izzy Greig, Mela Budgetts, Hailey Doyle, and Aaliyah Marin.
Members of Syncopation are: Kennedy Moner, Audrey Kelch, Amelia Burton, Lydia Littlejohn, Kennady Smith, Rock Hahn, Mathias Quintero, Jayden Taylor, Noah Varnal, Jace Randol, Luke Mackesty, Cj Neal, Adam Walker, Amari Russell, Addy Jarman, and Hailey Doyle.
The M-Pact Vocal Festival is held annually in November. It includes performances, clinics, master classes, and other presentations and educational opportunities. Clinics and masterclasses are run by members of the professional group M-Pact.
The festival is for Junior High, High School, College, and Community Ensembles. Vocal Jazz Ensembles from RPSMS have participated each year either in person or virtually.
